Description bugquestcontri 2012-11-05 03:50:02 UTC
Problem description:
I created a chart in Impress and needed to change format of a data series in a chart (stacked columns).
Observation - 1
Adding a new Gradient is not possible when changing the format of a data series

Therefore I opened an graphical object (rectangular shape) selected Area and added a new gradient

Observation - 2
The new gradient is only selectable for format of data series if the LibO is restarted again. Closing and opening Impress is not enough.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Insert a chart into an Impress slide
2. Select chart type column stacked ( I did not make a test with other chart types)
3. Open Format Data Series window and check which gradients are visible (selectable)
4. Create a rectangular shape on the same slide
5. Open Format Area window
6. Add new gradient and apply this to the rectangle
7. Go back to Formate Data Series in the chart
8. Check for available Gradients ( the new one is not visible)
9. Close LibO and re-open
10. Go into Format Data Series and select Gradients =>new gradient is visible and can be applied

Current behavior:

A new gradient can not be created when Format Data Series is done.

A new gradient created using a rectangle is not be visible (selectable) for the Format Data Series task after completing a formatting of the rectangular using the new gradient

Expected behavior:

Adding of new gradients being able when working on Format Data Series

As an interims step a new style set up by creating and formatting of a rectangle, is visible and selectable when going back to Format Data Series WITHOUT closing and re-opening LibO.

Platform (if different from the browser):
XP/SP3 LibO 3.5.7
Browser: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 5.1; rv:16.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/16.0

I can be contacted.

for me not reproducible with LO 4.0.1.2 (Win7 Home, 64bit)

Maybe, I am doing something wrong?
When I make a double mouse click on the bars and if I then select with right mouse click FORMAT DATA SERIES (tab TRANSPARENCY), then I can only choose between the six standard gradients. In your step 6 you are mentioning that you adding a new personalized gradient? How did you then select in FORMAT DATA SERIES this new gradient? Is there maybe a misunderstanding by me?

Thanks A for testing

I repeated procedure in Version 3.6.5.2 (Build ID: 5b93205)

And found that now only closing and reopening of Impress is needed.

I repeated the procedure described at the beginning (Description) and found no change.

LibO 4.1.3.2, OS is the same.

Never confirmed - moving to UNCONFIRMED so QA looks at it. Thanks

Could you please give more information about the steps 6 and 7. How do you add a new gradient in FORMAT -> AREA -> tab gradient? Thank you very much in advance.
Comment 8 bugquestcontri 2014-11-08 13:58:13 UTC
Here is how I creat a new gradient:

Create rectangular object
Right click > Area > Gradient
Add > enter a name
Set properties
Click OK
Click Modify
Name Window pops up
Click OK
Click OK to Area window
Rectangular object takes new gradient

Made the same time a test in 4.3.2.2 portable. Still the same behavior.

Reproduced. Lowering severity as a workaround exists (per https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/images/0/06/Prioritizing_Bugs_Flowchart.jpg)

Dear bugquestcontri,

To make sure we're focusing on the bugs that affect our users today, LibreOffice QA is asking bug reporters and confirmers to retest open, confirmed bugs which have not been touched for over a year.

There have been thousands of bug fixes and commits since anyone checked on this bug report. During that time, it's possible that the bug has been fixed, or the details of the problem have changed. We'd really appreciate your help in getting confirmation that the bug is still present.

If you have time, please do the following:

Test to see if the bug is still present with the latest version of LibreOffice from https://www.libreoffice.org/download/

If the bug is present, please leave a comment that includes the information from Help - About LibreOffice.

If the bug is NOT present, please set the bug's Status field to RESOLVED-WORKSFORME and leave a comment that includes the information from Help - About LibreOffice.

Please DO NOT

Update the version field
Reply via email (please reply directly on the bug tracker)
Set the bug's Status field to RESOLVED - FIXED (this status has a particular meaning that is not
appropriate in this case)

If you want to do more to help you can test to see if your issue is a REGRESSION. To do so:
1. Download and install oldest version of LibreOffice (usually 3.3 unless your bug pertains to a feature added after 3.3) from https://downloadarchive.documentfoundation.org/libreoffice/old/

2. Test your bug
3. Leave a comment with your results.
4a. If the bug was present with 3.3 - set version to 'inherited from OOo';
4b. If the bug was not present in 3.3 - add 'regression' to keyword

Feel free to come ask questions or to say hello in our QA chat: https://web.libera.chat/?settings=#libreoffice-qa

Thank you for helping us make LibreOffice even better for everyone!
