a polygon with text inside

Create a polygon in LOdev Draw
Set rotation angle in "position and size..." to 0
Enable "adjust to contour" in the "text..." context menu
Select "text" and insert some text: it is correctly positioned inside the polygon.
Now selct modify / rotate in the main menu
If "edit points" is enabled the curser shows rotation symbol but moves the points
If "edit points" is deselected the polygon is rotated but the text moves out of the polygon and even out of the page.
One time LOdev was even crashing when trying the procedure above

Is this bug still valid / reproducible with the latest LO release from http://www.libreoffice.org/download/ ?
Comment 2 ridi 2013-09-03 17:29:35 UTC
Hi,
I installed version 4.1.1.2 of  LO an could reproduce the main part of the bug ("edit points" deselected). Both loading the attachment test.odg and creating a new polygon with LO 4.1.1.2 shows the same behaviour.

ZIP containing ODG, PDFs, and screenshot of various rotation effects.

I am adding further example files to this bug that illustrate the problem with the text at various degrees of rotation. Confirmed under Crunchbang 11 x86_64 running v4.1.3.2.

The problem is the initial view and any export to PDF made from this view. Saving the ODG, exiting, and re-opening the file appears to rectify the rotation problem with the text, so at least there is a workaround. The "initial" screenshot and PDF show what the viewer sees at the time of the rotation i.e., the problem. The "subsequent" PDF (and opening the ODG now) show the expected view.

It looks to me as though the anchor point for the text is set at top left, and it attempts to rotate around this rather than using the same anchor point as the polygon.

Bug can be reproduced with LO 4.4.2.2. All necessary information is already available.
Comment 7 Matthew Francis 2015-04-24 10:35:15 UTC
Confirmed on latest 5.0 master

This is specific to "adjust to contour" - otherwise the text rotates as expected

(the minor issue about the rotation symbol display should probably be split onto a separate bug)

Also occurs in OOo 3.3.0
-> Version: Inherited from OOo

just tested with LO 5.2.1 on Ubuntu 16.04 (created from empty page):

The minor part ("curser shows rotation symbol but moves the points") seems to be solved: The rotation symbol is shown but now you really can move the point on a circular path only. This makes sense in the rotation mode.

The main part ("text moves out of the polygon") did not change. The text still moves out of the polygon and out of the page.

I can confirm that the issue persists in version 7.6.3.

Some problems are solved in current master. But the text position is still wrong. Bug 84507 has some discussions about relevant places in the code. I set this as duplicate to bug 84507, but this bug definitely needs to be checked in case bug 84507 becomes fixed.
