FYI,
WordPad.exe and Notepad++.exe works as expected.

Just after drag, the cursor is out of the selection, moving it a bit into the selection, it works fine for me.
Comment 3 Stéphane Guillou (stragu) 2023-10-10 12:06:53 UTC
No problem for me in:

Version: 7.6.3.0.0+ (X86_64) / LibreOffice Community
Build ID: ba808a28f5ea365eaf8fe5d9c7c91b417633d75f
CPU threads: 8; OS: Linux 5.15; UI render: default; VCL: gtk3
Locale: en-AU (en_AU.UTF-8); UI: en-US
Calc: threaded

Just like m.a.riosv said, depending on where it is dropped, the cursor might not end up above the active selection, which might explain it.
But the right-click fails for you even if the cursor is clearly on the selection?
Can you maybe share a video of it?

And please share the full version information copied from Help > About LibreOffice.

Thank you!

It works if right-clicking on the exact selection.
However, The I-shaped cursor on the text makes it difficult to point accurately with the mouse.

Comment 5 Stéphane Guillou (stragu) 2023-10-10 20:09:39 UTC
I can see how right-clicking on the right half of the last character in the selection makes the selection disappear. It is more obvious with a high zoom level, and more problematic for a 1-character selection.

Marking as new although I'm not sure if there's a good reason it is this way.

Reproduced in OOo 3.3 as well as a recent trunk build:

Version: 24.2.0.0.alpha0+ (X86_64) / LibreOffice Community
Build ID: ff9c8b62c1015972e9e89799832fa3690dcd46b4
CPU threads: 8; OS: Linux 5.15; UI render: default; VCL: gtk3
Locale: en-AU (en_AU.UTF-8); UI: en-US
Calc: threaded

That fact that Calc does not have the same problem makes me think it is indeed a bug that needs fixing.
