I cannot confirm the behavior, neither with Skia/Raster nor with Skia/Vulcan.

Do you have rotated the scene or the cube itself? In case you have rotated the cube, do you should have exit the group (=scene) before trying to work on the other shapes. So are you sure you are outside the scene when trying to work on the other shapes?

I have tested it with Version: 7.0.0.0.alpha0+ (x64)

How do I properly deselect the cube?

My question was, whether you have selected the cube or the scene. That information is in the status bar.

To go from cube selection to scene selection press Ctrl+F3.
For deselecting the scene, a click outside into a free area should work. Pressing Esc-key should work too. The field in the status bar should then be empty.

3D cube.

Your new screen cast shows, that you are indeed working on the cube, which means, that you are inside the scene. You can work on shapes outside the scene only after you have left the scene. So you must use Ctrl+F3 or the command "Exit all groups" from menu Shape or contextmenu to leave the scene.

I think, your problem has nothing to do with Skia, but with your bug 122735. A scene works similar to a group. And as long as shapes outside the scene do not become pale, you have no visual feedback whether you are inside the scene or not.

Besides that, the scene is very large. Zoom out until you see all handles to make sure, that clicking outside the scene to deselect it, is indeed a click outside the scene. In case of large objects or large pages it is really easier to use Esc-key to deselect something.
