Description Volker Helm 2012-11-06 13:58:52 UTC
Hi,

I've got problems with mail merge and faxsimile on libreoffice 3.5.4 kubuntu 12.04 and debian wheezy libreoffice 3.5.4 also.

I've created an spreadsheet file like this

Name Number
TEST1 0815
TEST2 0816

and save it as TESTFAX.ods

Thereafter I created an FAX.odt file, in which I inserted a new database TESTFAX.ods menu->insert->Fields-> Tab Database -> Add database file -> Browse...

After that I selected the Mail merge fields <Name> and <Number> and inserted them into the text like this:

<Name> @@#<Number>@@

Then pressing <ctrl><P> for print and selected Yes for form letter.

In Mail Merge I selected all and get the Print Dialog, where I selected the printer faxprinter (installed via spadmin and working with single file). There I went to Tab Options an selected 'Create single print job for collated output' and 'Use only paper tray from printer preferences' also either of them.

As result I received each number 0815 and 0816 received one file with two pages containing the whole merge mail. Till openoffice 3.2.1 (last used version on debian squeeze aka UCD 3.0) you selected in Dialog Mail Merge 'print single jobs' and each job was splitted into the different numbers, where I wanted to send them.

I'm quit confused, because the same description stand inside the documentation.

I'm sincerely sorry for my bad english, but I suppose german wouldn't be an option in an international bug list.

Thanks for your help in advance.

Volker

I already tested this problem with following versions:

3.4
3.5
3.6
4.0.0.3

and openoffice 3.3

Every version on ubuntu 12.04 or ubuntu 12.10 on AMD64 and i386.

It doesn't work. It seems that the change in the print dialog is the main reason.

I hope, someone'll find a solution.

Thanks in advance.

spadmin has just been dropped in master sources (future 4.3.0). About fax, fax4cups will be used.

See http://nabble.documentfoundation.org/spadmin-fax-machines-etc-is-this-still-useful-td4101351.html#a4101370

(for technical elements, see http://cgit.freedesktop.org/libreoffice/core/commit/?id=ed6171632005cdaa987214e84f0ad8fd0dbdd2da)

Caolán: here again, should we put this one to FIXED or are there still things to implement?

I realise this is an old (v3.5) unconfirmed report that appears to have an spadmin-related aspect. None-the-less I want to link a recent query on AskLO for the same issue (Hylaxfax print jobs using mail merge) under v4.2:

In 4.3 the what should happen with hylafax is that a dialog pops up in which to enter the numbers and paste in the full set with commas inbetween and it should loop through the list of numbers and fax each of them as a separate job.

I'd love to get feedback with the 4.3 release candidates if that that truly works. The old scheme seems to have come unstuck around the OpenOffice era rework of printing/pdf export.

Setting to needinfo as dev has asked for feedback by testing with LO 4.3
Comment 6 Joachim Wiedorn 2014-11-15 01:24:40 UTC
Because of the removing of spadmin I have started again development of fax4CUPS with an updated version 2.0. Here you find sources and Debian packages:

  http://www.joonet.de/sources/fax4cups/

I have tested this package with Hylafax 6.0.6 / Hylafax Plus 5.5.5 and CUPS 1.5.4 and it runs without errors.

Thank you Joachim for your feedback and your work on it!
I think we can consider now this one as FIXED.

However, if someone still reproduces the problem with a recent LO version (last stable one is 4.3.3) + fax4CUPS 2.0 (last version indicated by Joachim), don't hesitate to reopen this tracker.
